Speaker applications are now open until Monday November 25!

Most researchers wish they had more time for generative research. The problem is that people are trying to do two very different things (generative vs evaluative) the same way and calling both Research. In this talk, Brad Orego covers the need for a major shift in the way we plan and execute generative research so it can deliver all the value we need it to.

Giving 100% at your job is a good thing—right? As researchers, the work is never done: driving the bottom line, uncovering novel growth areas, keeping the lights on, and building empathy where there is none. But what if our focus on doing it all, delivering outcomes everywhere, and keeping everyone satisfied is actually harming our impact? In this talk, Zoë Glas shares why caring less—not more—might be the key to becoming a better researcher.

When research is focused solely on product, we put all our eggs in one basket. But what if we could use our research skills to do more than improve the product—to help build a better business? In this talk, Abby Hoy Baylen shows us how to expand the scope of research beyond product and closer to the money.

As qualitatively-oriented researchers, we often talk to users, ask questions, and gather feedback on prototypes. But are these methods limiting our users’ ability to fully express themselves—and our ability to communicate insights to stakeholders? In this talk, Vicky Zeamer makes the case for adding more co-creative and visual methods to our research toolkit.

Researchers around the world are being asked to do more with less, and when a private equity firm takes over your company, that is even more true.
